"Jazz
is Art, Art is Jazz"
I was trying
to express my love of both mediums (art and jazz) with this
painting.. so it's a kind of marriage of the two. Seems to
have a kind of Picasso feel to it, although unintentional.
The two brushes are real by the way, and have been collaged
onto the canvas.
I am particularly fond of jazz and blues, especially the post
1950's era of American music and even a lot of contemporary
jazz being played today. It's the music of choice when I am
painting, and my infatuation has even led to me recently taking
up tenor saxophone (much to our cat's disapproval!).
I find a lot of correlations between art and music and I have
been fortunate enough to be able to mix both pleasures for
my jazz-art series "Jazz Is Art, Art Is Jazz". The
bulk of my jazz series consists of large oils and pastels
and is currently hanging in an exquisite Glenelg restaurant/gallery.
For the last few years I have also been producing promotional
artwork for the Adelaide Jazz Festival, where my limited edition
prints are sold.
